YEDITEPE UNIVERSITY PHYSIOLOGY DEPARTMENT LABORATORIES

COMPUTERIZED PHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY

Computerized Physiology Laboratory is designed for teaching, supporting and also assessing School of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation students at undergraduate level. The laboratory provides students with opportunities to practice common methods in clinics such as Electrocardiography (ECG), Electroencephalography (EEG), Electromyography (EMG), phonocardiography, galvanized skin response and also procedural skills  on respiratory and hearing tests, reflexes and heart sounds associated with the core course.

Computerized Physiology Laboratory provides laboratory space for enhancing the educational experience of our students.

Interactive teaching simulation programmes Physioex 9.0 and Biopac student lab v.9. are used to practice the experiments. Students are required to study in small groups (5-6 students per group) accompanied by teaching assistants & lecturers.

BRAIN RESEARCH LABORATORY

Brain Research  Laboratory’s primary function is to expose MSc. and Ph.D students to a wide variety of experimental techniques, from the most basic and classic laboratory skills to modern advanced research technologies. Brain Research laboratory offers educational and collaborative opportunities to various departments in the Faculty of Medicine as well as several other collaborating departments within Yeditepe University, national and international laboratories.

The aim of research in the Brain Reseach laboratory is to gain new knowledge on the mechanism in neurodegenerative diseases. There are also several other ongoing research projects investigation central and peripheral regulation of feding behavior, ageing and learning & memory, and regulation of energy metabolism.

We are continually updating equipment and facilities to support our researchers. Brain Research Laboratory is fully equipped for cell culture and histological procedures.  Some of the equipment includes animal monitoring, histological preparation, stereotaxic surgical operations,  patch clamp system, tissue bath, inhalational anesthesia and brain microdialysis with HPLC-ECD, laminar flow hood, laser doppler flowmeter, software for data acquisition  and also optogenetics.

MOLECULAR PHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY

In this wet Physiology laboratory, student experiments on cellular physiology (such as osmosis and osmotic fragility), hematocrite analysis, blood typing, bleeding & coagulation time, smooth muscle contraction experiments using organ bath system are demonstrated.

Also, the Molecular Physiology lab aims to translate our research on cellular physiology into better understanding of the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases. Research methods in this laboratory includes western blotting, brain sectioning by cryostat, immunohistochemistry, PCR, cell culture, DNA isolation and methylation analysis.
